Strong Woman from Road of Flowers and Questions

Rebecca and I go to great lengths to cultivate an open creative process when we are working with young artists. We allow artists to get their hands around materials and methods knowing the content will naturally emerge. A rigorous practice of working out in the open is essential to the way and the why we founded the Theater of Inclusion. An open studio involves working solo and working collaboratively. We come together to find and explore ideas and images that inspire our thinking as well as the stuff we feel in our gut. Young artists are introduced to the process of building towers out of cards covered in drawings, diagrams, maps, and notes jotted down quickly in the spur of the moment. This process is designed to create connections in the working artist and to spark new beginnings. Here a strong woman drawn in marker rises up out of a hand-made map.
